The Lawrence North Jazz Program is a special part of LN Bands where students can explore the rich history and cultural significance of Jazz Music, learn the jazz idiom and improvisational style, deepen their music theory knowledge, and play in a unique ensemble that is specific to Jazz. Our Jazz ensembles participate in music festivals in the spring semester, perform at concerts and gigs around Lawrence, and go to ISSMA Jazz Organizational.

Jazz 1
Jazz 1 is our premiere Jazz Ensemble at Lawrence North HS, comprised of the typical Big Band instruments. This ensemble plays literature by varying artists and backgrounds and dives into the idiomatic playing styles of Jazz Music. These students are recommended to be in private lessons where Jazz style and music can be worked on along side their concert style playing. This group Is form young musicians that are very interested in exploring more of what jazz has to offer and be challenged with repertoire. This ensemble is open to any Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Guitar, piano, or Percussionist.
Jazz 2
Jazz 2 is our secondary Jazz ensemble where anyone is encouraged to participate! Any student, regardless of instrument, that wants to start on their journey with Jazz music should start here. Flute, Oboe, and Clarinet players may learn to ply the Saxophone in this class, Horn players may learn trumpet, and Tub/Euphonium players may learn the Trombone.
